Is there anyway to order the plastic nose piece as mine is destoryed after a nosedive, also this plane lands on grass fine with no landing gear, no scratches at all

Cheers.

IMHO This and Hk hellcat might look better and be easier to orientate in their earlier and more commen 3 tone colour scheme...like parkzone ones.

Does anyone know the recomended COG for this plane ?
Recived my new plane yesterday, it look great, but unfortunally there
is no mention of centre of gravity in the user manual.
Petter.

Hi Petter,
if you jam the battery as far forward as possible and add a little lead to the nose it should be OK.
CG is definately right on or forward of the wooden spar in the wing. Right now I would say about 3 to 5 mm fwd of the spar is good but want to do more tests before I "make it official".

Hope this helps

the stock setup with reccomended battery is too light. you will need to add 90-120grams of weight into the front.
i maidened mine today and it flew fine... after about 3 crashes. i ran it with the 2s 1300mah battery in the compartment underneath the plane. it was still tail heavy.
it also needs a bigger prop. as adding weight slows takeoffs.
im planning to run a 900kv outrunner, 3s, 9x6 prop. gonna try than 2moro or next weekend.
the cg should be around 1/4-1/3 of the width of the wing from the leading edge.

Hi Grahame. I don't have one of these yet but i do have several similare foamy warbirds.IMHO They work best with a 3s battery and it looks like that motor ,esc & prop combo is desiegned for 3s operation. I humbly recomend getting a slim 3s or modifying youy battery area to accomadate one. HK are nearly allways out of stock of the best choices so try lipo's on E bay.

I,ve been flying this model a lot, it,s an exellent flyer with Turnigy 2200mAh 3S 20C Lipo Pack jammed as far forward as possible, as Eric suggested, no led needed.
(allmost) unlimited vertical performance on the stock motor/ESC setup, right out of the box.
I,m very happy with my plane, only mod done is that I made a new landing gear from bicycle-spokes, works great.

I agree with the above... I have the P51 Lan Yu and the 3 cell is the best option, I too have a 2200mAh 3s 20c, stock ESC and motor... the only thing I would suggest is to buy a APC style 8x4 prop... HobbyKing have them and they are cheap! The slowflyer props will break easily and get rid of the wheels, other than that, fantastic cheap planes.

Does anyone have experience with flying this plane?
I just ordered one (not here yet) and am wondering if I should hand launch it and not install the wheels. Any Ideas?
Thx E.
   Alan (82%)
I havn't flown this, but i have experience with similare low wing (Spit & zero)Venom types. IMHO These are wild planes and not for beginers I think its best to lose the wheels. obviously you will cut the motor in plenty of time. The engine cowlings are usualy fragile vac-formed afairs. If so, best replace this with a suitably sized and modified soft plastic hand cream container or such like. CG is 1/3 cord from leading edge.

Thanks Alan,
well I just did the maiden today and I can definately say the CG is LESS than 1/3 cord from LE. I would say it's more like 25% MAC but will measure this more precisely later. I had the recommended battery (2cell turnigy) from HK jammed as far forward in the slot and it still porpoised like crazy. Also after my 3rd try and 3rd hard landing in the snow (thank god for snow!) the main landing grear ripped clean off! So after that I did hand launching and that worked much better! So that basically answers my question about landing gear or not.
I think experienced pilots will get bored quickly with this plane but that's what 3cells are for right?
Oh* I already tried a 3cell and the motor control would cut-out, and not let it go full throttle. So it seems like it is well matched for the stock set-up.

Hi Eric. Sounds like your getting it sorted. Does the esc have a name on it? if so you can get google it to find a manual and reset it for 3s IMHO These were origonally set up for brushed/ni-cad power so they now present, tail heavy and trimmed for slower flight. try to enlarge the battery pan as forcing it may split foam or damage wires.Cheers Alan

Thanks again for the tips.
Nope! It's a real generic HobbyKing(?) special. Just an ESC in black shrink wrap and no markings except for a single round little silver sticker with "18a" on it- so 18 amps right? Well I think I'm gonna leave it now in this config (see my review-2nd one down). With the Turnigy motor in it the ESC works fine and doesn't cut out at all! So now I can really play around with batt+prop combinations. But as it is, the 2 cell with the stock 8x6 prop and ESC are pretty damned good! Only if you have to have absolute unlimited vertical would I bother with 3 cells.

keep on keepin on

Thanks Eric , I'm gona have to get one of these now, Still waiting for my Hellcat though. My HK' P47 is an awesome plane too.

Hi.

I normally use the landing gear for the maiden flight. It is a bit easier to correct takeoff speed (high takeoffspeed) when using landing gear instead of hand launch. This will prevent stalling the aircraft, or if it is not in trim, it will be easier to get some altitude. When you have trimmed /balanced the plane, it should be easy to handlounch.

What Kind Of Foam Guy (81%)
I love shopping on this site. We do like specifics though. It would be great if standard practice for all foam planes was to say WHAT TYPE of foam it is (eps, epo, epp). That is often a key decision making piece of info. There have been many lost sales from me because it is not described fully.
   snappy (87%)
I think its foamy foam, made from foam
   Crashinbash (84%)
Yeah it's made of foam, EPO to be exact :)
   fathead431 (62%)
its the good kind of foam, the soft bendy stuff. not the cheap polystyrene hobbyking stuff
   Alan (82%)
Imho these were origonaly designed for heavyer and slower brushed/ni-cad set up so they usualy want a bit of weight up front and may have too much incidence (angle of atack).
